Cradle City

2008 - present
Ambitious green field development bordering the Cradle of Humankind heritage site, and adjacent to Johannesburg’s second largest airport (Lanseria). Appointed by Amari Holdingsto prepare an urban design framework and precinct plans.

The planning and design of the 900 hectare site, in association with GAPP architects and urban designers, has been guided by “One planet Living” sustainability principles, to create a new hub in the north-west corner of the city. Distinct precincts, situated along the river system, maximise views towards the Magaliesberg mountains and visibility from the main access roads, and offer a unique opportunity to live,
work and play in close proximity to nature.

The proposed development is planned to be functionally integrated and connected to the rest of the city by public transport.
Cradle City consists of three distinct areas. North, towards the airport, is “the Green Coast” including mixed use, leisure, hospitality, residential and special uses. Surrounding the airport to the south is the industrial and logistics hub and the “Urban Living Centre“, both accessible to the main motorways and road network.
