Ellis Park

2003 - 2009
Multilayered urban regeneration framework with legacy projects, related to preparation for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Appointed by the City to prepare an urban design framework and implement the projects. The study area consists of 640ha of inner-city residential and industrial areas.

The framework aimed to build new partnerships, promote the development of affordable housing, increase densities and regenerate the education and sports precincts.

The project implementation, carried out in association with MMA architects and NLA landscape architects, includes a network of “green corridors” - landscaped, pedestrian-oriented routes - connecting the main public spaces and facilities such as the Ellis Park Stadium, new Bus Rapid Transport stations (BRT), railway stations and taxi ranks. The key interventions are the Ellis Park Central Square connecting the two stadiums and providing new public facilities, the refurbishment of heritage buildings and the Transport Square providing new taxi facilities and improving access to the railway station.
